Built on experience. Driven by science. Here to help.
We provide high-quality oligonucleotides and related analytical services.
Assemblon was founded by scientists who have dedicated their careers to oligonucleotide R&D. We have built and directed some of the most respected oligonucleotide synthesis operations. From the earliest days of commercial DNA synthesis through to the latest advances in therapeutics and diagnostics, we have innovated and worked with many partners across a wide range of applications. The laboratory is at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, alongside Diamond Light Source, the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source and the Rosalind Franklin Institute.
The founders

Tom is Emeritus Professor of Nucleic Acid Chemistry at the University of Oxford, where his research spans the synthesis and application of nucleic acids in diagnostics and therapeutics, with almost 500 research papers and patents.
He is co-inventor of Scorpion and HyBeacon probes, a pioneer of click chemistry in the nucleic acid field, holder of the RSC Khorana Prize, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He has co-founded several nucleic-acid-based companies.

Daniel combines operational leadership at Assemblon with technical consultancy to customers on oligonucleotide design and chemistry. His background spans academic research, industrial R&D and laboratory leadership in nucleic acid chemistry, with extensive work on oligonucleotide synthesis and the development of novel modification chemistries.
His doctoral research covered porphyrin-modified DNA and the structural study of G-quadruplex DNA and LNA duplexes.

Richard is a specialist in oligonucleotide purification and characterisation, with extensive experience in HPLC and mass spectrometry analysis of modified oligonucleotides.
He oversees the synthesis team and is responsible for site management and quality systems. He also runs the analysis service for oligonucleotides made outside Assemblon
Our team
Assemblon has a team of experienced technical and research staff with significant hands-on expertise in nucleic acid chemistry, oligonucleotide synthesis, purification and analytical characterisation. Their combined experience supports the delivery of reliable, high-quality oligonucleotides, and provides the basis for our high-level customer support and innovation.
Our principles
At Assemblon, we believe that advances in oligonucleotide therapeutics, diagnostics and other areas begin with chemistry. We combine fundamental chemical understanding with innovative synthesis and technology development to create new approaches for designing, making and modifying oligonucleotides. Our principles are built around scientific rigour, innovation, collaboration and practical impact, transforming challenging chemistry into scalable solutions that can accelerate the development of next-generation nucleic acid medicines and diagnostics.
